A Beginner's Guide to Taking Awesome Pet Pictures

A beginners guide to taking awesome pet pictures identifies several unique ways of capturing your pet in a perfect shot. Everyone knows that pets can be tricky to capture when trying to get that close up shot. So why not bring it down to their level and let the image tell a story from their point of view.
Furthermore, I have five techniques that will allow you success in capturing your awesome pet picture, they include: keeping the eye sharp, use natural light, go to them, experiment, and include people.

1. Keeping the Eye Sharp

  • Focus on the pets eyes
  • Use Micro setting to capture the close-up shot
  • Pet's eyes can be very expressive
  • "Eyes are the window to the soul"

Keeping this in mind can allow you to catch an awesome close-up picture of your pet. Rather it be from their gorgeous colored eyes to their cute little noses. From the picture above is my baby lion-head rabbit Pixie. I took tons of photos to capture this awesome picture, which I have hanging in my room.

2. Use Natural Light

  • Always use natural light
  • Avoid any flashes
  • Go outside
  • Go in a room with windows
Using these concepts will help you successfully get that perfect shot. Using a natural light will help keep the animal calm and prevent red eye. I strongly suggest letting the animal be in their environment limiting anything that may frighten them.

3. Go to Them

  • Pets feel comfortable and at ease
  • Getting down to their level
  • Shoot from their eye level or below
  • Show the way they see the world
Like I said before, it is very essential that your pet feels at home and not out of its comfort zone. So take it to the next level and think like your pet, what does your pet likes to do, and use that when taking your pets pictures. Do not make your pet feel uneasy or upset just because you want a picture. You can still get a fabulous picture just by doing what they like to do best.

4. Experiment

  • Try different approaches
  • Angles and composition
  • Action shots
  • Take a lot of pictures
Experimenting is the key to taking awesome pictures. When I take pictures of my pets I use all of the approaches to get that awesome picture. Rather it be outside or inside. It's crucial to always have a camera with you, cause you never know when you will have eye capturing moment.

5. Include People

  • Shots with the owner or family members
  • Posed shots and candid shots
  • Capture the owners and pet at play
  • Capture the character of the pet
Including the owner or family members in shot brings forth a since of friendship and loyalty. Having them interact with each other can give you a priceless shot, that they can keep for ever. Every pet owner always want to have a picture with them and their pet.

Also, many people has asked this question. What type of camera do you use? I always use Canon Camera. Canon to me is the best type of camera to buy, I love all the features it displays and the quality of the camera. I just recently bought a Canon Rebel T3 camera and I absolutely love it. I would recommend it to anyone with an interest of photography.
